It doesn’t come out until September, but I’m already excited! I love French Revolution fiction and am not averse to time-travel as long as it’s not too silly. Here’s the book description:
Revolution
by Jennifer Donnelly
September 28, 2010
book description:
“BROOKLYN: Andi Alpers is on the edge. She’s angry at her father for leaving, angry at her mother for not being able to cope, and heartbroken by the loss of her younger brother, Truman. Rage and grief are destroying her. And she’s about to be expelled from Brooklyn Heights’ most prestigious private school when her father intervenes. Now Andi must accompany him to Paris for winter break.
PARIS: Alexandrine Paradis lived over two centuries ago. She dreamed of making her mark on the Paris stage, but a fateful encounter with a doomed prince of France cast her in a tragic role she didn’t want—and couldn’t escape.
Two girls, two centuries apart. One never knowing the other. But when Andi finds Alexandrine’s diary, she recognizes something in her words and is moved to the point of obsession. There’s comfort and distraction for Andi in the journal’s antique pages—until, on a midnight journey through the catacombs of Paris, Alexandrine’s words transcend paper and time, and the past becomes suddenly, terrifyingly present.
Jennifer Donnelly, author of the award-winning novel A Northern Light, artfully weaves two girls’ stories into one unforgettable account of life, loss, and enduring love. Revolution spans centuries and vividly depicts the eternal struggles of the human heart.”
I had 2 of this author’s other books, but the flood got them

Hello, my name is Arleigh... welcome to my book review site! Here you will find author guest posts, book news, reviews and various articles on the genre. My favorite author is Jean Plaidy, of whom I have built a

Is this YA? I loved Donnelly’s The Tea Rose and The Winter Rose…brilliant novels!
I think it is because it links it to her other YA novel, A Northern Light.
That’s what I thought. I may just have to check it out because I love her writing! Thanks for the heads up Arleigh!
OMGosh I can’t wait! I didn’t even know this was coming out! I love Jennifer Donnelly ever since I read Tea Rose. I guess this one will have to go towards my French Historical Fiction Challenge.
Thanks for sharing!
I LOVE her books! Can’t wait for this.
Loved a Northern Light, but I hate time travel books so this one is not on the radar for me. Sad. Her YA stuff is strong. Hated her adult books.
Ooh, this one sounds like a really cool concept, and perfect for the French Revolution mini-challenge I’m doing this year. Thanks for the heads-up!
Yay! New Jennifer Donnelly!
Now she can get on and write the third book in the Rose trilogy! Wait, did that sound a bit harsh? I did like Northern Lights, but I am so eager for that third book!
The genius of this book is that it doesn’t have to be read as a time travel fantasy. Donnelly sets things up so cleverly that the time shift, when it occurs, has a perfectly logical 21st century explanation–no magic involved. The connections between the past and present are flawlessly handled, and the commentary about the revolution from Orleans’ point of view is so incredibly wise and timely that it bears reading, and rereading, and quoting, and then thinking about some more. This book is a stunner.
